American Psychological
Association
The
American Psychological Association (APA) is a scientific and
professional organization that represents psychologists in the
United States. APA educates the public about behavioral science,
psychology, and mental health; promotes psychological science and
practice fosters the education and training of psychological
scientists, practitioners and educators; advocates for psychological
knowledge and practice to inform public policy; and champions the
application of psychology to promote human rights, health,
well-being and dignity.
APsaA (American
Psychoanalytic Association)
The
American Psychoanalytic Association (APsaA), the oldest national
psychoanalytic organization in the nation, was founded in 1911.
APsaA, as a professional organization for psychoanalysts, focuses on
education, research and membership development. In addition to the
national organization, APsaA’s membership includes 29 accredited
training institutes and 42 affiliate psychoanalytic societies
throughout the United States. Since its founding, the Association
has been a component of the International Psychoanalytical
Association, the largest worldwide psychoanalytic organization.

International Society for

International Society for
Ecological Psychology
The
International Society for Ecological Psychology was founded in the
fall of 1981 in the wake of the First International Conference on
Event Perception. That first Event perception conference (conceived
as the only one, a unique event so far as anyone intended) was held
at the University of Connecticut in the summer of 1981 (it is
documented in the book, Persistence and Change, edited by William H.
Warren, Jr. and Robert E. Shaw and published by Lawrence Erlbaum
Associates, Inc., 1985). At the end of that conference, Joe Lappin
rose to speak at the final dinner and announced that he liked it so
much that he would hold one at Vanderbilt. This was arranged and the
conference held in 1983. It was Lappin's gesture that transformed
the single conference into a series.
International Society
of Health Psychology Research
The
International Society of Health Psychology Research (ISHPR) is a
global association of health psychologists who are devoted to
promote scientific attempts at understanding the behavioral causes
of illness as well as predicting and facilitating health behavior
change. Members are psychologists who are actively engaged in
research and promotion of issues relating to health psychology in
countries all over the world. The Society supports international
exchange of information and collaboration on theoretical and
empirical research and, in particular, culturally sensitive
research.
International Society
for Research on Aggression
The
International Society for Research on Aggression (ISRA) is a society
of scholars and scientists interested in the scientific study of
aggression and violence. The Society is both international and
interdisciplinary and meets every other year on alternating
continents. There are over 250 members from several dozen countries
with specialties in psychology, psychiatry, physiology, sociology,
anthropology, animal behavior, criminology, political science,
pharmacology, and education.
Mental Health
Internet Mental Health is a free encyclopedia of mental health
information created by a Canadian psychiatrist, Dr. Phillip Long.
The idea of creating Internet Mental Health resulted from a
Canada-Japan Mental Health Exchange in 1994 arranged by Mr. Mikio
Kuraki. During that exchange, Robert Winram and Dr. Phillip Long
visited Japanese psychiatric hospitals and lived for one week with
psychiatric patients as guests in their homes.
